Author: FST
Four-wheel drive, also called 4x4 (''four by four'') or 4WD refers to type of a vehicle, characterized by four wheel drive, higher chassis, better grip tires, higher exhaust pipes and high horsepower. At present, the most popular off-road vehicle, like Land Rover Range Rover, Toyota hilux, landcruiser,Jeep cherokee, Mitsubishi pajero, etc, not only has magnanimous apperance, but also goes beyond the passanger car of excellent performance, when climbing or crossing the river.
Winter is the time of extremes in Australia's more southerly regions, car owners should take some protective measures of maintanance, especially aiming to the cold wether .Follow a few vital tips for reference:
Tyre Pressure |
Should you be caught in a flash rainstorm, be hit by snow or anything else that can dramatically alter the terrain under foot, the last thing you want is to be running on tyres that are set up to run on hard, dusty tracks or tarmac. Keeping a 4x4-oriented portable air compressor in the boot can have your tyres precisely inflated or deflated super quickly, helping you maintain as much grip as possible on just about any terrain. |
Selection of Antifreeze |
Try to use the recommended antifreeze, such as 2010 Grand Cherokee, Wrangler Rubicon 2010 are equipped with antifreeze improved formula, which can prolong the maintenance intervals of time. The antifreeze can be replaced for 5 years or travel to 160 thousand km for the longest time. It is better to use the same antifreeze in the service life of the vehicle so as to avoid shortening the maintenance period. Generally,a mixture of antifreeze and distilled water is at a minimum concentration of 50%. If the temperature is below 37 degrees Celsius, you need to use a higher concentration (no more than 70%). |
Invest In Recovery Tracks
If you haven't already, it's about time to catch up to the majority of 4x4 enthusiasts in investing in a set of 4x4 recovery tracks. They take a huge amount of hassle out of navigating your way out of slushy snow, thick mud or just about any other soft terrain, meaning less time digging for you and much more versatility in the the types of situations you can tackle.
Battery |
The electrolyte in the battery can not be deficient. Keep the plate submerged for 10 millimeters, then check the specific gravity of the electrolyte and maintain the charge. If the battery is not charged enough, it is easy to crack in the cold. |
Maintanance of Chassis |
Be sure to replace the driving part of the oil, which must be more suitable for the temperature of lubricating oil. Do not choose low quality of calcium base grease. Also remember to examine the brake oil, because the temperature has an important influence on the brake oil, which caused viscosity changes, thus viscosity affect th brake performance. |
Here some more tips for quick defrosting and demisting:
For removing fog on the front windshield, hot air gives good effect. It should be noted that fog on the windshield will not pass off after using the hot air, which caused by temperature difference from the inside and outside. Moreover, please remember not to wipe the window with a wet cloth, otherwise it will easily freeze, so you'd better use dry cloth when you wipe it. |
